Housing Support Services

Empowering Stable Living

Through Self-Determination

Our Approach

Our approach centers dignity, cultural humility, and the understanding that each person’s journey is unique. We work alongside participants to stabilize housing, prevent homelessness, and support long-term self-sufficiency. By combining practical support with peer connection, advocacy, and skill development, we create pathways toward secure housing and thriving communities.

Why Fair Housing Matters

In Dane County, disparities in housing access mirror larger inequities that have existed for generations. While Black residents make up roughly 6% of the county’s population, they represent nearly half of those experiencing homelessness. Rent prices continue to climb faster than wages, and eviction filings have reached record highs, leaving families one unexpected bill away from crisis.

What We Offer

Housing Search & Placement

We support participants in identifying affordable housing options that align with their needs and goals. Our team provides guidance with housing applications, waitlists, and the documentation required to move forward in the process. We also work to build and maintain relationships with landlords who are open to partnering with individuals navigating barriers, ensuring that participants have greater access to stable and welcoming housing opportunities.

Rental Assistance Coordination

We connect participants to community resources that provide support with rental assistance, utilities, or moving costs, helping to ease the financial burden of securing housing. Our team coordinates with local housing authorities and programs such as Section 8 or public housing to expand access to affordable options.

Community Integration

We support participants in taking the necessary steps to gain access to transitional housing options that offer time-limited support, connecting with permanent supportive housing opportunities, and identifying rapid rehousing programs that provide short-term rental assistance and case management.

Eviction Prevention & Advocacy

We provide advocacy with landlords to address concerns and help prevent eviction, ensuring participants feel supported during difficult situations. Our team coordinates with legal aid and mediation resources when additional assistance is needed. We also work alongside participants to develop individualized plans that strengthen their ability to maintain safe and stable housing over time.

Independent Living Skills

We offer coaching in essential life skills such as budgeting (when appropriate) and home maintenance. Our team support skill development in organizing, cleaning, and creating safe. In addition, we work to strengthen knowledge of tenant rights and responsibilities, ensuring participants feel prepared in maintaining housing.

System Navigation

We assist participants in accessing public benefits such as SSI, SSDI, TANF, W-2, and other vital resources that contribute to financial stability. Our team coordinates with child protective services, probation, and healthcare providers. We work to build relationships with landlords open to renting to individuals with barriers.
