Bethany Matson

Bethany Matson, MSW, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker with more than a decade of experience advancing equity, fostering community well-being, and leading systems change. She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has served in diverse roles across child welfare, behavioral health, youth justice, and nonprofit leadership.

Bethany’s work is grounded in trauma-informed care, racial equity, and restorative practices, with a deep commitment to culturally responsive, person-centered approaches. Her leadership experience includes supervising teams, facilitating cross-sector collaboration, and guiding initiatives to reduce disparities and strengthen communities.

She has been recognized and entrusted with multiple leadership roles and honors, including her appointment to the City of Madison Equal Opportunities Commission (2019), and selection as an Urban Leaders Policy Fellow (2021) where she collaborated on education policy with the New Orleans School Board. Since 2022, Bethany has served as Community Co-Chair and Facilitator for the UW–Madison Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work’s annual Social Workers Confronting Racial Injustice Conference.

Continuing through a personal and professional journey of reconciliation and healing, Bethany strives to stay rooted in anti-oppressive practice, anti-racism, and transformative healing work. Bethany is looking forward to working with Sondercove to continue creating spaces for connection, equity, and meaningful change.
