About our Story, Grown in Community
Sondercove Wellness wasn’t born in a boardroom. It wasn’t sketched on a whiteboard or written into a business plan.
It was born in the pauses between survival and collapse—in the long nights someone sat on the floor with no one to call. In the shame-soaked silence after a relapse. In the empty waiting rooms where folks were told they’d “aged out,” “timed out,” or “used up” their chances. It was born in the moments where the system said “no,” but community said “I got you anyway.”
Sondercove came from lived experience. From walking through mental health challenges that weren’t always named, from navigating substance use without clean labels or neat endings. From being told, “you’re strong,” when what was really needed was softness, safety, and someone to sit beside the storm.
Its founder—like so many of the people Sondercove now serves—was once on the receiving end of a care system that never quite fit. The kind of system that asks for your trauma before it earns your trust. That sees diagnoses before it sees people. That defines success in charts, not in the courage it takes to simply keep going.
Over time, through community, connection, and collective healing, a different vision began to take shape. One where recovery wasn’t a destination but a relationship. Where people could show up in pieces and still be whole. Where culture, identity, and lived experience weren’t just acknowledged—they were central to the path forward.
Sondercove Wellness was created for those who’ve been told “you’re too much” and for those who’ve been told “you’re not enough.” It’s for the ones who fell through the cracks and built homes in the spaces between. It’s for the mothers navigating their healing while raising the next generation, for the people who’ve survived systems and still find ways to love others, and for every soul who's ever been met with punishment when what they needed was care.
This is a place where peer support is sacred. Where harm reduction is a language of love. Where being seen doesn’t come with conditions.
It’s not just wellness. It’s a return to humanity.
Welcome to Sondercove—a shelter, a movement, a soft place to land.

What makes Sondercove Different
-
Our providers bring lived experience into the work, offering support that’s relational, nonclinical, and grounded in mutual respect. We’re not here to fix—we’re here to witness, walk with, and uplift.
-
Responsiveness at Sondercove means recognizing how race, identity, and systemic harm shape people’s healing. It means honoring chosen families, challenging norms, and welcoming every part of someone’s story—including the ones society often silences.
-
Whether you're part of Dane County's Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) program or seeking peer-aligned support outside of it, we’re here. We offer workshops, supervision, consultation, and individual services accessible through both public and private pathways.
-
This is a space built for Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and system-impacted individuals. Not just to be included—but to be centered, seen, and affirmed.
-
We honor pauses, rest, resistance, and the reality that wellness isn’t a checklist. We support people on their own terms, at their own pace, through multiple pathways—including ones they define for themselves.
